Successful Number Recognition
In a world where numbers are present everywhere, the skill of accurately distinguishing and assigning labels to them is crucial. Initially, when Sara began ABA sessions, she was believed to have knowledge of numbers from 1 to 20. However, inconsistencies were observed during testing, where Sara would sometimes confuse "teen" with "ty" when labeling numbers (for example, saying "40" instead of "14" and vice versa). She also faced difficulties in accurately labeling double-digit numbers, occasionally reversing the digits (such as saying "41" instead of "14") or stating each digit separately (like saying "one-four" instead of "fourteen"). Since number recognition serves as a fundamental skill in mathematics, Sara's ABA team focused on teaching her to identify numbers accurately. They employed prompts and positive reinforcement to assist her in acquiring this essential skill. Over time, Sara gradually became capable of correctly labeling all the numbers presented to her, ranging from 0 to 100. Achieving mastery in this skill establishes a strong foundation in number recognition for Sara, enabling the development of further mathematical abilities upon this stable base. Sara's parents were filled with joy to witness her progress.
