Our Shadow Service provides one-on-one in-school support for children who benefit from additional guidance to navigate classroom routines and social interactions. Our trained behaviour therapists act as a supportive presence, helping children understand instructions, manage challenging situations, and participate in learning activities.
Shadows also model appropriate social behaviours, encourage engagement with peers, and provide immediate feedback to facilitate learning. They work on essential skills such as social interactions, task independence, task completion, group participation, help-seeking behaviours, and following classroom expectations.
Role of the Shadow:
- Support the child’s independence in the least intrusive manner
- Reinforce teachers’ instructions and classroom expectations
- Promote engagement in class activities and daily routines
- Help children keep up with transitions and group participation
- Encourage appropriate social interactions and classroom behaviours
- Foster task independence and task completion
- Gradually fade support as the child gains confidence and competence
- Collaborate closely with teachers to ensure consistency and meaningful progress
